Through discussion in todays lesson within the group we have decided upon the track 'Binocular' by The Family Rain. We have started to form ideas around a narrative for the video as this format is seen in many of the bands videos and connects to their existing meta-narrative. Through analysis of the lyrics we have identified the key theme being that of someone who is following a girl who he is in love with. Visually we have gained inspiration from particularly artistic and stylised texts such as the works of Wes Anderson, the Utopia series and the music video 'Riptide' by Vance Joy as well as others and feel these texts could assist us in out production.
Our initial idea for the narrative consists of the two characters of the stalker and the girl, so far we have recognised two different situations the two may be in. The first being that they are two lonely souls both seeking companionship and the second being that the girl already has a boyfriend that perhaps isn't as good to her as he could be leading to the stalker to want to replace him.
We imagined the reality of each scene to be represented by a colour drain making real life appear hopeless and dull, however when the stalker is looking through his binoculars life appears bright and beautiful. We would like to use locations which could be considered visually stunning and to emphasise their beauty through stylised colour grading when the scene are viewed through the binoculars that the stalker holds. So far we are consider a large field perhaps considering colourful wildlife and a beach scene.
