GROUP: Concept Development

Upon further discussion between the group considering our narrative plot and visual style we have made a few more developments.
We are continuing with the basics of our narrative, of a man following a women and viewing what there life would be like together through his binoculars. The main contrast being their happiness when in reality they can be seen as lonely 'lost souls'. The video will take place over multiple locations, So far we are considering locations that can be created into individual artistic pieces such as the beach, a field, a firework display (Submarine influence) and perhaps an urban location.

When researching narrative themes within music videos we have not found many considerable links to our own narrative, however we have found influence in the sequences and directional style of film directors such as Wes Anderson, we feel the use of his rhythmic and unique camera movement and visual themes within his films of loneliness and troubled characters could be extremely useful when reflected within a music video form as his directing style is often illustrative of his original score soundtracks,  Using this we aim to create a cinematic and stylised piece.

Other influences in terms of colour grading and the visual look of our piece is Channel 4's 'Utopia' directed by Marc Munden, the use of colour in this series is a key part of the shows tone. By using high brightness and contrast to create hyper-realism within the piece, we feel that this could be very effective when representing the view through the mans binoculars.

When portraying the real world view of the two characters who are to be represented as alone or unhappy in their current state we are going to opt towards a drained or dull colour spectrum using greys and pale blue tone as can be seen in music videos such as 'When The Sun Goes Down' directed by Paul Fraser from the short film 'Scummy Man'.
