which is ordinary and does not establish much of a “star image”

In the frame we see in the
foreground the bass guitar, and in the background the drummer is fully in
shot keeping the rhythm of the song. The camera then pans left to a CU shot
focusing on the bass guitar when it is first heard within the track

Panning out and left, showing
the whole band together as the beat of the song increases, presenting a form
of band unity. Also establishes the overall grading of the shot, a more retro
alternative look

|
Static shot, showing the
singer as the lyrics are introduced to the song, again costume is normal,
similar to the rest of the band members, but presents this artist with more
star image as he is breaking the 4th wall by looking straight at
the audience

Panning right to left, shows the band again all
playing together and also the location, it is very simplistic and the

- I decided to focus on the performance aspect of this video as the visual style, which is more vintage/sepia is what we want to achieve within our video, and is a more appropriate example of what we want to emulate within our piece.
- Within this video, and much like the majority of performance based videos, the cutting rate is extremely fast, featuring 1 second shots the majority of the time. It is also clear that each shot is cut on beat, so changes to the beat and rhythm of the music.
- I also looked at this video because there is performance intercut within a narrative story line, this is something we want to do within our video as oppose to the Bloc Party analysis I had previously conducted which is performance for the whole duration of the video
- The mise-en-scene within this video constructs a very vintage/retro/sepia feel throughout the video which is also similar to some of The Family Rain's existing videos and is a style we want to achieve. The location is also something we will consider, as it is made to look low budget as it is very simplistic with simple low key lighting; this is something easily achievable within our video as we are working on a low budget.
Great analysis Ben I like the vintage tone of colour in the video which suits our own narrative.
